The FPU "has been following the degradation of the country's situation with poverty increasingly affecting millions of Angolans, this is because we increasingly have a very high cost of living and, therefore, we think we must react to this situation", told Lusa the platform's deputy coordinator, Filomeno Vieira Lopes.

The so-called march "for an Angola free from hunger, poverty and systematic violation of the democratic rule of law" is scheduled for Luanda and should also protest against the country's new administrative division and for the "release of political prisoners".

For Filomeno Viera Lopes, the current situation in the country is critical because it is faced with an "autocratic State, which determines rules that do not allow the potential of Angolans to be taken advantage of and with an extremely high level of corruption".

"We need to change the structures of this autocratic State so that we can have some hope, to stop this mismanagement that exists in the country, this extremely high propensity for corruption that is taking away the capacity of governance, to make an economic policy in accordance with the interests popular", he pointed out.

According to the president of the Democratic Bloc (BD), which together with the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) and PRA JA Servir Angola form the FPU, the march will also contradict the country's administrative division, "which only emerges to avoid municipal elections".

Viera Lopes pointed out the need to make a broad movement so that municipal elections take place in 2025 and to create independent bodies to manage electoral processes in the country.

The president of BD considered that the electoral processes in Angola "are very doubtful", because, in his opinion, the party in power (MPLA) "commands the structures that organize the elections, namely the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and the Court Constitutional".

"There is a consensus that we must have these bodies with an independent character to prevent fraud, which leads to dramatic situations, which is why we are going to ensure that these bodies are changed to protect electoral truth", he highlighted.

Marching for the release of those considered "political prisoners", notably the activists Adolfo Campos, Hermenegildo José "Gildo das Ruas", Gilson Moreira "Taneice Neutro" and Abraão dos Santos "Pensador" also constitutes one of the purposes of this demonstration.

"Hunger continues to affect thousands of Angolans and everyone is called to this demonstration, because there is no economic policy that alleviates the performance of businesspeople and even 'zungueiras'", concluded Filomeno Vieira Lopes, noting that administrative authorities have already been informed about the march.

The march, which should take place from 9am on Saturday at Largo do Cemitério da Santa Ana, should cover some streets in the capital.
