"Similar to the Kwenda program, which is removing millions of citizens from a situation of financial vulnerability, the exemption from Labor Income Tax on those who earn a salary not exceeding 100 thousand kwanzas constitutes another step taken by my Executive in protecting families with less income", wrote the head of state, on his official Facebook page.

In the publication, João Lourenço also mentions the "cut in VAT by half in relation to basic necessities and the increase in public servants' salaries by five percent" as other measures that aim to provide financial relief to families.

"The drop in VAT by half in relation to basic necessities and the increase in public servants' salaries by five percent are other measures that aim to alleviate the financial strain on families", the publication reads.

"All these challenges require each of us to be more dedicated and committed to our work, with a view to increasing the productivity of our economy", he added.

Last Tuesday, the Minister of Finance said that an exemption from IRT for those earning up to 100 thousand kwanzas was proposed. "Another path that affects not only public servants, but all citizens who have a formal job, is related to the Labor Income Tax, where we are proposing to increase the exemption threshold, currently worth 70 thousand kwanzas", said the minister at the time, adding: "What we are proposing now is 100 thousand kwanzas, so that anyone who earns up to 100 thousand kwanzas also does not pay IRT, it is a way of giving some relief to families through this measure of fiscal nature".
