PR approves financing of 116 million to buy 500 school buses

The President of the Republic has approved the conclusion of an individual financing agreement of US$116.1 million for the supply of 500 buses, indicates a Presidential Order.

:

Presidential Order number 253/22, of November 14, published in Diário da República, consulted this Wednesday by the Lusa agency, states that the global amount of US$116,152,500 also includes the supply of equipment and technical assistance services for the design and implementation of the School Mobility Programme, "taking into account the urgency of acquiring buses, equipment and services with the necessary infrastructure".

At stake is, justifies the Presidential Dispatch, the "need to improve urban transport, school mobility, as well as passenger assistance services to guarantee a better quality of life for citizens".

The document authorizes the Minister of Finance, on behalf of the State, to sign the financing agreement with the Austrian institution GOTRANS GmbH and its agent HFFT.

In 2017, a Presidential Order also authorized a financing agreement with GOTRANS GmbH, of 306.8 million dollars for the acquisition of 1500 buses for school transport, looking at the "need to implement the projects integrated in the Program of Public Investments, within the scope of the investment policy for the economic and social development of the country".

Prior to the 2017 agreement with GOTRANS GmbH, a year earlier, the Government also authorized the purchase, by Presidential Order, of 1500 buses from the Brazilian company ASPERBRAS, worth US$383.5 million, "with a view to implementing the concept of school transport with priority for students and reduce absenteeism rates in schools".
