Score Distribuição invests around 11 million dollars over three years and opens fifth Deskontão in Luanda

Score Distribuição has invested 11,412,500 dollars in Angola since 2020 and will open its fifth Deskontão store this week, the group's managing director, António Leal, announced last Friday.

In a meeting with journalists, in Luanda, the head of the group, which has a partnership with the Portuguese company Jerónimo Martins and exclusive representation of the Pingo Doce brand, underlined that the objective is to continue to invest "in a sustainable way", essentially using the generation of 'cash flow'.

Present in Angola since 2013, Score has invested 2 billion kwanzas per year on average and maintains a "stable" turnover, with variations of around 1 percent, revealed António Leal, without detailing sales figures.

The head of the Deskontão hypermarket network underlined the good performance during the covid-19 pandemic, pointing to March 2020 as the best ever in terms of sales.

"This year we have more difficulties, especially between August and October", admitted António Leal, considering that the drop was due to the combined effect of the general elections held in August and the holidays.

"I think it was the first time that many people were able to take a vacation after the pandemic," he explained.

Jerónimo Martins is just one of more than 50 Score partners who buy 70 percent of their products from local suppliers, of which about half are perishable (meat, fish, fruit and vegetables).

António Leal points out that meat, exclusively national, is one of Deskontão's main bets, highlighting among its partners AgroQuibala, as well as bakery products, with its own production and operating 24 hours a day.

In the charcuterie field, Deskontão works with two of the biggest sausage producers in Angola - Valinho and Quinta de Jugais - as well as traditional sausage companies from Lubango.

Novagrolíder and Fazenda Girassol supply, with small farmers, fruit and vegetables and the fish comes essentially from the Angolan coast, except for imported species.

The group currently has four Deskontão stores and one under the Mel brand, creating around 600 direct jobs.

The fifth Deskontão supermarket will open next Tuesday, in Luanda.

Score's expansion plan does not yet include the opening of stores in other Angolan provinces, António Leal also said.
