Angolan MMA fighters debut at the World Championship

The national team of Mixed Martial Arts disputes, for the first time, an amateur World Championship, taking place between the 12th and 20th of February of the next year, in Serbia.

Marc Moggridge:

According to the president of the Angolan Federation of Mixed Arts, Armando Diogo, Angola will participate in the competition with a selection made up of 30 fighters, within the limit of 50 imposed by the organization of the event.

Speaking to ANGOP, the official explained that each athlete will see scheduled up to three fights per day, according to the resistance level of each one.

The selection will carry out an internship in the province of Huíla, adapting to the climate of Serbia, until January 31st, leaving for the southeastern European country on February 5th.

It should be remembered that the selection is African champion and vice-champion in male athletes, having won four medals in the continental championship held in April this year in South Africa. It is also champion of Region V, title obtained in October in Namibia.

These titles came just two years after the Angolan federation of the sport became official. Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a combat modality that includes standing strikes and ground fighting techniques.
