Petro de Luanda wins and reinforces Girabola leadership

Petro de Luanda, led by Portuguese coach Alexandre Santos, thrashed Sporting de Cabinda by 4-0 on Saturday, in a game of the seventh round, and reinforced Girabola's leadership, with 18 points.

Yano, at 45+2, Jaredi, at 64, and Tiago Azulão, at 73 and 88 minutes, scored Petro's goals.

Who was not so lucky was the Portuguese coach Luís Gonçalves, who debuted in the Angolan league with defeat, after his Interclube lost against Santa Rita de Cássia by 1-0, in Luanda, with a goal by Gui, in the 20th minute.

With this defeat, Interclube remains in fifth place, with 11 points.

In the other game this afternoon, Sporting de Benguela beat Isaac de Benguela by 1-0, after a goal by Betinho, in the 46th minute of the game.

On Sunday, Desportivo da Huíla, led by Portuguese coach Paulo Torres, beat Académica do Lobito 3-0 and climbed to seventh place in Girabola with eight points.

Nandinho, at six minutes, Tchutchu, at 59, and Robson, at 89, were the authors of the goals, in a game played in the province of Huíla.

Sagrada Esperança, under the command of Portuguese Alexandre Ribeiro, wasted points again by drawing against ASK Dragão do Uíge 0-0, and added the second consecutive draw, in a total of three, having conceded two defeats and only one victory, in six games played, with one in delay.

Sagrada Esperança is 11th with six points.

Wiliete FC beat Desportivo da Lunda Sul by 1-0 and reinforced their second place in the championship, with 17 points, after Nelito's goal in the 28th minute.

A similar result was seen in the game in which Cuando Cubango FC won against Bravos do Maquis, after Moussa's goal in the 14th minute.

Tiago Azulão, from Petro de Luanda, is the league's top scorer, with nine goals, followed by Kaporal, from Académica do Lobito, who has four, and Mano Calesso, from Interclube, with three.

Sporting de Cabinda players threaten strike over unpaid wages

On Friday, Sporting de Cabinda players threatened to go on strike and not face Petro de Luanda on Saturday, in a game for the seventh round, due to arrears of wages, referring to 21 months.

The team stopped work for four days this week, due to the athletes refusing to train.

The club's president, Bartolomeu Manuel, admitted the liability and assured that efforts are being made by the management he directs, as well as by the government of the province of Cabinda.

"Right now, the only solution is to get the money to pay the players," he said.
