Luso-Angolan group invests three million in own wine brands

The Portuguese-Angolan group Top Indústria invested 3 million dollars in the creation of its own wine brands and this year began packaging bulk wines imported from Portugal in Angola.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, António Lopes, executive director of Top Indústria, stressed that the new company is contributing "in a modest way to economic and social development".

Top Indústria, created three years ago, currently employs 16 people and has four of its own brands, in addition to packaging foreign brands in Angola "replacing imports".

The project, which got off to a strong start this year, has so far cost 3 million dollars, involving land, infrastructure, equipment and financing costs.

Bulk wine is mainly purchased in Portugal, while raw materials are primarily purchased in Angola, namely cardboard.

Top Indústrias has so far created four "bag-in-box" brands for the Angolan market, positioned in a more popular segment.

"In this type of product, the consumer is obviously looking for a price, but we don't want to have the best price, we want the best price-quality ratio. Therefore, the wine is packaged as it comes from Portugal, we carefully choose our partners", he stressed.

António Lopes considered that the international context, associated with the war in Ukraine and the post-pandemic period, has kept the Angolan market "a little still", but he is optimistic about the future.

"The Angolan consumer is a wine lover, has a rich gastronomy and we wanted to expand our activity, going from a mere importer and distributor to a producer, adding local value. And we think that this can be extended to other types of products", he stressed.

"We will see the opportunities that arise. Starting to dominate this industrial aspect, we can move towards other types of products, not only drinks, but also food", said the person in charge of Top Indústria.

"The way the project has gone so well, depending on the brands we created, in such a short space of time, allows us to aspire to diversify not only brands, but also products", added António Lopes, also in charge of Viniangola (importer and distributor of Portuguese and foreign brands of wines and spirits).
