IMF “available” for new financial or technical assistance program

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said it was available for a new program of “financial aid or not for Angola”, should the Angolan authorities so desire, as the decision is a “total extension” of the Government.

:

“We already had a presentation with the authorities on the different types of engagement of the fund and others, but this is entirely a decision of the Angolan Government, based on this presentation we made”, said the IMF representative in Angola, Marcos Souto.

The “various modalities, the current situation, expectations regarding the medium and long-term future whether it makes sense or not for them [authorities] to have an official engagement with the Fund, an engagement that can be without funding, with funding”, he explained .

"There are several modalities, but it is a total prerogative of the Angolan Government", underlined Marcos Souto, in statements in Luanda.

Speaking at the end of the presentation ceremony of the Report on the IMF's Regional Economic Perspectives for Sub-Saharan Africa, the official said that the body he represents "is always ready" to help countries in need.

“The IMF has always been willing to give support to countries in general whenever there is a need, this has been our focus mainly during periods of crisis where we have done what was possible to give maximum support to countries that were suffering from the current crisis”, he concluded.

The previous IMF financial assistance program to Angola ended in December 2021.

The IMF Report on Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa was presented in the capital, in a ceremony co-organized by the international body and the National Bank of Angola (BNA).
