Judgment of IURD bishops kicks off under heavy police apparatus and prayers

The trial of the bishops of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD), indicted for crimes of criminal association and money laundering, began this Thursday at the Provincial Court of Luanda (TPL), downtown, under a strong police apparatus.

At the TPL, also known as the Dona Ana Joaquina palace, in the center of the city, there is a strong presence of police officers and on the Luanda seafront a prayer chain is being held, with hundreds of faithful.

Brazilian bishop Honorilton Gonçalves da Costa, former spiritual head of the IURD in Angola and Mozambique, is one of the defendants in this process and who has already arrived at the court in Luanda.

Bishop António Miguel Ferraz and pastors Belo Kifua Miguel and Fernandes Henriques Teixeira are also accused.

Several IURD leaders and members in Angola were formally indicted last August for the crimes of criminal association and money laundering.
