Former Minister of Finance appointed Executive Director of the World Bank

Armando Manuel, former Finance Minister, has been appointed as World Bank Executive Director for Angola, Nigeria and South Africa.

The office of the Executive Director, called 'Constituency of Group 3 of Africa', represents Angola, Nigeria and South Africa. The office, now led by Armando Manuel, aims to represent the interests and concerns of these countries to the World Bank councils and help fight poverty, says Expansão.

Armando Manuel studied Economics at Agostinho Neto University and became a Master in Economics at London Guildhall University in London. He was economic policy advisor to the President of the Republic, President of the Sovereign Fund of Angola and headed the Ministry of Finance. In 2003 he took over the Treasury Department's Operations and in 2006 became National Treasury Director.

In 2014, while serving as Minister of Finance, he received an award from the African Banking Organization. Currently, between November 2018 and October of this year, the former Minister of Finance held the position of Deputy Executive Director.
