Angola ranked 43rd in the Ibrahim Index of African Governance 2020

Angola ranked 43rd in the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) 2020, showing signs of increasing progress, according to a report published Monday.

:

Angola scored 40 points in 2019, 5.4 more than in 2010, being the third country among 54 that improved the most in the last five years.

It was also one of only eight, along with Chad, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Seychelles, Sudan and Togo, that managed to evolve positively in the last decade in the four categories: "Security and Rule of Law," "Participation, Rights and Inclusion," "Bases for Economic Opportunities" and "Human Development.

Still, Angola is the country with the worst score in Southern Africa, far behind the 66.9 points of the leader Botswana.

The Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) annually measures the quality of governance in 54 African countries by compiling statistical data from the previous year.

In 2019, it recorded an annual decline for the first time since 2010 of the overall average score, down 0.2 points to 48.8 from 49 points in 2018.
