João Lourenço who says the State will continue to recover assets constituted with public funds

The President of the Republic assured that his Government will continue to work to recover all the assets that were created with public capital, but that "unfortunately" at some point no longer had the State as the main shareholder.

João Lourenço, who was speaking to journalists this Wednesday in Luanda, after inaugurating the Hotel Continental Luanda Miramar, an infrastructure recently recovered by the Attorney General's Office (PGR), confirmed that it was built with resources from the oil company Sonangol.

"In the specific case of this unit, the entire investment was made by a public company, Sonangol, and as a result of the PGR action, the property ends up returning to those who actually made the entire investment," said João Lourenço, when asked by journalists .

According to the PGR, the infrastructure was linked to the ex-vice president, Manuel Vicente, who also chaired the board of directors of the state-owned Sonangol, in the era of José Eduardo dos Santos.

The nationalized Hotel Continental Luanda Miramar, managed by the Intercontinental Hotel Group - worldwide hotel chain - was inaugurated by the President as part of the celebrations of the country's 45 years of independence.

João Lourenço believes that the hotel, which has 377 rooms spread over 24 floors and should generate around 900 direct and indirect jobs, "will be a success" and will bring "gains for private investment, tourism and the country's good name" .

"We are a country that lately has been working to attract foreign investment, as well as tourism. Our country has great potential to develop tourism and we lacked this type of hotel and we believe in its success", he noted.

The President admitted that Angola "does not have a sufficient number of hotels and perhaps not so well distributed throughout the national territory".

We need other hotels, other levels that the country has, other investors, we believe that the hotel industry will win and we will have gains for the country ", he concluded.

Speaking to public radio, one of the managers of Sonangol's logistics base, Sonils, said the state had invested 600 million dollars in the hotel.
