Africa with 233 more deaths and a total of 1,930,981 infected with covid-19

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded an additional 233 deaths related to covid-19, increasing to 46,505 the total fatalities of the new coronavirus, which has already infected 1,930,981 people in the region, according to official data.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), in the 55 member states of the organization there were 13,021 more cases of infection with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The number of recovered people is now 1,634,235 1,622,252, 11,983 more than the day before.

The largest number of cases of infection and deaths are recorded in Southern Africa, with 832,855 infections and 21,608 deaths from covid-19. In this region, South Africa, the continent's most affected country, accounts for a total of 744,732 cases of infection and 20,076 deaths.

North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has a total of 604,470 people infected and 16,322 dead and in East Africa there are 235,271 cases and 4571 fatalities.

In the West African region, the number of infections is 196,620, with 2809 fatalities, and Central Africa has 61,765 cases and 1,195 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 6417 dead and 110,095 infected, followed by Morocco, which counts 4570 fatal victims and 276,821 cases of infection.

Algeria followed, with 65,108 infections and 2111 deaths.

Among the six most affected countries are also Ethiopia, which has 101,248 cases of infection and 1,554 fatalities, and Nigeria, with 64,728 infected and 1,162 dead.

In relation to African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique has the highest number of cases.

Angola records 315 deaths and 13,057 cases, followed by Mozambique (104 deaths and 14,094 cases), Cape Verde (102 deaths and 9694 cases, Equatorial Guinea (85 deaths and 5104 cases), Guinea-Bissau (43 deaths and 2419 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (16 dead and 962 cases).
