Three more deaths and 289 cases lead country to overcome 12 thousand covid-19 infections barrier

The country has registered another 289 infections by the new coronavirus, which exceeds 12 thousand cases, and three more deaths, announced this Thursday the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.

In the last 24 hours, there have been three more deaths, two men and one woman, Angolans, aged 54, 62 and 66, as well as the recovery of 84 people with the disease.

Of the new cases, 233 were reported in Luanda, 22 in Benguela, 17 in Kwanza Norte, six in Cabinda, five in Kwanza Sul and Lunda Sul, and one in Namibe, aged between 4 months and 81 years.

They were diagnosed in 179 males and 110 females.

In total, 12,102 cases of covid-19 have already been reported in the country, of which 299 have died.

To date, 168,959 samples have been processed, of which 2204 in the last 24 hours.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 1.2 million deaths in more than 48.1 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 43,913 confirmed deaths in more than 1.8 million infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent statistics about the pandemic in the continent.

Angola registers 299 deaths and 12,102 cases, followed by Cape Verde (97 deaths and 9149 cases), Mozambique (97 deaths and 13,391 cases), Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 5089 cases), Guinea-Bissau (42 deaths and 2414 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (16 deaths and 958 cases).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
