Xanana Gusmão wants “effort” from CPLP to contribute to global peace

The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste defended a “common effort” among the Member States of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) so that the organization can make its contribution to “peace and global development”.

Speaking to journalists, after a meeting with the executive secretary and representatives of the member states of that organization, Xanana Gusmão said that in the CPLP "there will be efforts" so that "the cooperation agreement signed between the organization's countries can be developed (.. .) around the common goal of creating peace, harmony".

The Timorese Prime Minister defended that "from the countries of the Community" this can contribute "to world peace and global development".

Xanana Gusmão, who has been on an official visit to Portugal since October 12th at the invitation of his Portuguese counterpart, Luis Montenegro, visited this Thursday for the second time the headquarters of the CPLP, an organization of which Timor-Leste is one of the nine states -Members, where he also highlighted the members' common commitment to the "fight for the democratic rule of law" and the sustainable development of the community's countries.

The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste made these statements after a meeting with the Executive Secretary, Zacarias da Costa, and the permanent representatives of the Member States to the organization.

In addition to Timor-Leste, CPLP member states include Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe.
