The diplomat said that he wanted to “compare notes” after the telephone conversation, on Thursday, between João Lourenço and Joe Biden to ensure that both parties had the same understanding.

“As you know, postponing a President’s trip is not easy. I believe in the understanding of the Angolan people and the Angolan Government regarding this postponement”, said Mushingi, adding that the conversation between the two heads of state went well and that both are “very happy” with what was discussed.

Mushingi mentioned that Biden's trip will take place when there is an agreement on the new date.

“Of course the trip will happen, we wanted to discuss it and (guarantee) that we have the same understanding and ask the Angolan people to continue believing in this trip that will happen”, he reinforced.

The North American ambassador, who arrived in Angola in 2022 and is at the end of his mission, took advantage of the meeting to offer farewell greetings to João Lourenço and thank the way he was received by the Angolan people and Government, congratulating himself on the results achieved these two and a half years.

In addition to João Lourenço's visit to the United States last year, he also highlighted the trip to Angola by Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, director from the CIA, and a delegation of businesspeople linked to agribusiness, as well as North American partnerships with Angola, including the Lobito Corridor and projects in the areas of energy, telecommunications and security.

In the area of governance, the diplomat highlighted that the US continues to believe that “good governance makes sense everywhere” and intends to continue promoting freedom of the press and space for different political parties so that the Angolan people have access to choices.

Given everything that has been achieved, he highlighted, “it is not a surprise” that President Biden has chosen Angola as the only African country he will visit, he continued.
