"When it happens, the visit (by Joe Biden) will serve to consolidate the path of building a strategic partnership that will expand relations of friendship and economic cooperation between our countries, Angola and the United States of America", said João Lourenço, who was speaking as leader of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).

Joe Biden's visit to Angola was scheduled for next week, between the 13th and 15th, but on Tuesday the US government announced that it would be postponed due to the hurricane that is expected to hit the United States of America (USA) in the coming days.

The President of the Republic hoped that the consequences of "a devastating hurricane", which is expected to hit US territory in the coming days, would not cause human casualties or serious material damage and expressed his conviction that the postponed visit would take place.

The head of state declared that his counterpart would be welcomed "with open hands, with the spontaneity that characterises Angolans".

According to João Lourenço, this visit will open up greater business opportunities for Angolan and American investors, be a benefit to the economy, stimulate the emergence of partnerships, contribute to the increase in national production and exports, promote tourism, open doors to entry into the American market and facilitate the insertion of our economy into the global economy.

On the sidelines of this visit, João Lourenço also highlighted that a summit will be held in Luanda on the Lobito Corridor, a railway infrastructure that connects Angola to the mining areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia.

According to João Lourenço, the heads of state of the DR Congo, Zambia, Tanzania and other important figures will also participate in this summit.

In the context of international relations and Angola's growing position, the head of state recalled that "in November of this year, in Brazil, Angola will participate in the G20 Summit and assume the rotating presidency of the African Union next year, 2025".

He also said that the United States of America/Africa business summit will take place in the middle of next year, also in Luanda, bringing together politicians, businesspeople, bankers, investors and academics from the US and the African continent.

João Lourenço expressed the need for the MPLA to encourage this dynamic of opening up the country to the world, especially "to the world of business" in order to do justice to the option for a market economy, within the framework of the democratic state of law that is constantly being built.
