A total of 4073 places began to be filled this Wednesday by more than 1000 salespeople from various parts of Luanda. The new 'Women's Market', which came into operation this week - although not yet officially - promises better conditions for traders arriving from various parts of the city of Luanda.

This fair, well known to the female public, offering mostly products aimed at women, took place for years in the 11 de Novembro Urban District, also in Cazenga, having been deactivated at the beginning of the year by the owner of the space.

The new space, located in the same municipality but in the Nzamba neighborhood, continues to be private property but promises conditions such as wooden benches, storage space for goods and toilets. It should be open from Monday to Saturday between 5:30 am and 6:00 pm. In addition to clothes, footwear and beauty products, it will also be possible to buy food.

The vendors who already occupy the square, although still 'clandestine', were satisfied with the conditions, saying that despite the work not being completely finished, they are already pleased that it is possible to sell in a safe place, referring to Angop that the new market gives them more dignity.

The person responsible for the Women's Association responsible for the new market, Teresa Leitão, stated that the conditions for commerce are met, as the new space has piped water, electricity, bathrooms and warehouses. She highlighted that the works continue towards the completion of more naves, so that it is possible to accommodate a greater number of salespeople in a dignified manner.

Still speaking to Angop, Maria da Trindade - who sells trousers and women's footwear - said she was satisfied with the start of sales, moving from a precarious situation to one in which she feels comfortable. Feliciana Contreiras highlighted that the new market has a good business environment as it is equipped with benches, thus opening the sale of products within everyone's reach: "It brought relief to the families who depend on it", said the saleswoman.

It is worth remembering that the Governor of the Province of Luanda, Manuel Homem, was one of the promoters of this new space, having already made an observation visit to the market works. The person in charge highlighted that this space was urgently needed after listening to the sellers about the difficulties and constraints they had experienced in the months in which the market was closed.
