Technological startup becomes the first in the sector to receive the ‘Made in Angola Seal’

WiConnect became the first startup in the technology sector to receive the ‘Made in Angola Seal’. The certification was awarded by the National Institute for Support to Small and Medium Enterprises (INAPEM).

:

"INAPEM is responsible for attributing the 'Made in Angola Seal'. It awarded the seal to WiConnect, becoming the first startup in the technology sector in Angola to be certified with the 'Made in Angola Seal'", says a statement sent to VerAngola.

Created in 2015 by Paulo Araújo and Francisco Carrolo, WiConnect "has been considered the best startup in Angola by Seedstars since 2016".

This company is dedicated to providing Wi-Fi, marketing, advertising and structured network solutions, and has been carrying out "work to assemble free Internet access points in colleges, bank branches and many other points" national level, enjoying multiple partnerships in various sectors of the economy, adds the note.

According to the statement, the startup's "big bet" is to "continue to collaborate for the digitalization" of the country and "increase the export of Angolan technology" across borders.

"WiConnect, like all startups in Angola, 100 percent supports the 'Made in Angola Seal' initiative as well as the startups law because it creates a strong basis in our country for the creation of a strong private sector", the statement also states.

It is also recalled that, from next year, national public entities will be "required to purchase products bearing the 'Made in Angola' seal", the measure of which aims to stimulate "consumption of national production and strengthen competitiveness".

At the beginning of the year, on January 3, INAPEM announced "the drafting of a law to regulate startups in Angola", which aims to "establish a specialized legal framework, recognizing specificities of the sector", and "instead of restricting, the intention is to enhance and clarify functions in the ecosystem".

"Startups have been recognized worldwide as a vital engine for economic diversification, converting informal activities into formal ones and driving economic growth. Internationally renowned agencies, such as the World Economic Forum and McKinsey, have highlighted the positive impact of startups on emerging economies. Angola, by investing in strengthening this sector, aligns itself with examples of global success, aiming for sustainable and inclusive development", concludes the note.
