PHA says it voted against dismissal of PR because “country needs political stability”

The president of the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), Florbela Malaquias, said that her party voted against the creation of the eventual commission to remove the President as it understands that the country “needs political stability”.

:

"The PHA understands that we need political stability and that is why we did not embrace this cause", he responded to Lusa, at the parliament headquarters in Luanda, confirming his party's vote against in last Saturday's extraordinary plenary session.

The Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), which holds a majority in the National Assembly (parliament), rejected, on Saturday, the intention to create a possible commission to evaluate the complaints of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA ), who proposed the dismissal of the President.

For the consideration in plenary of the proposal for the accusation and dismissal of President João Lourenço, it was necessary to create an eventual parliamentary committee, but this committee was not even created, after a vote against by the parliamentary majority and also by the PHA.

Speaking to journalists, as part of the solemn opening session of the 2023-2024 parliamentary year, Florbela Malaquias also said that deputies will face many challenges in the legislative year that begins.

"The challenges facing deputies are many, such as observing the execution of the State's accounts, legislating on matters that have been suspended", she highlighted.

Regarding the conclusion of the municipal legislative package, the last diploma of which is yet to be approved by parliament, the PHA leader said she believes that the problem of local authorities should be reviewed by deputies, as soon as it is scheduled.

"It's obvious that the issue of local authorities goes through (the deputies), but as it hasn't been scheduled yet I can't say anything about it", she concluded.

The second parliamentary year of this legislature (2022-2027) begins this Monday with President João Lourenço's speech on the State of the Nation.
