UNITA wants to publish audits of State accounts

UNITA argued that the Court of Auditors should publish the results of audits of State accounts not only as a “transparency exercise”, but also “so that the resulting consequences can be assessed”.

This is one of the seven recommendations of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), in the final communiqué of the parliamentary days, which took place in Malanje, under the motto "For Democracy, Citizenship and Inclusive Development".

The remaining suggestions also essentially concern the financial area. The UNITA parliamentary group recommends the creation of a technical budget support unit to support monitoring the execution of the General State Budget (OGE) and that the National Assembly "effectively control the Executive's acts that lead to the country's debt".

Parliamentarians from the "Galo Negro" party also want the Executive to implement multi-annual budgets, that limits be imposed on State debt and additional credits and that documents relating to medium and long-term debt, the annual report of tax execution and the tax correction plan.

UNITA also considers, in the document released on Sunday, that Angola "is on the verge of becoming an unviable state", due to the autocratic governance of the ruling party (MPLA) which threatens the rule of law, and reiterated the relevance of the proposed dismissal of the President of the Republic.

The XI UNITA Parliamentary Days, which took place between the 3rd and 7th of October 2023, in the city of Malanje, were attended by deputies and members of the UNITA board, the PRA-JA political project and the Democratic Bloc, as well as guests civil society, religious entities and traditional authorities.

The days included field visits to all municipalities in the province of Malanje (north), with the aim of maintaining direct contacts with citizens, communities and public and private institutions.
