Country wants to reduce carbon emissions by 20 percent

ANPG, the National Institute of Environmental Management and Chevron signed this Monday, in Luanda, a Memorandum of Understanding on the expansion of low-carbon energy.

Invited to open the event, minister Diamantino Azevedo was "satisfied with the completion of the act" which became reality after three months of negotiations between the parties.

"It marks the beginning of tripartite cooperation, taking into account the paradigm of combating climate change and energy transition at a global level", highlighted the government official, explaining that "the objective is to promote low-carbon products, through the establishment of an organizational structure in that all signatories of the memorandum intervene".

He said that potential areas of cooperation and development are linked to green hydrogen, green ammonia, biofuels such as ethanol, sustainable aviation fuel, carbon markets and offsets, as well as carbon capture technologies.

According to Diamantino Azevedo, the memorandum also contemplates the participation of private entities "through the establishment of public-private partnerships".

The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas assured that through the department he heads, the Executive of President João Lourenço is committed and has implemented low carbon programs and hopes that by 2027 it will be able to reduce carbon emissions by 20 percent compared to to 2020.

"It is a serious and irreversible desire", stated the person responsible, hoping that "it will be carried out by all institutions in the sector and partners".

Paulino Jerónimo, for ANPG, Hassana Lima, for INGA, and Billy Lacobie, for CABGOC/Chevron Angola, signed the Memorandum of Understanding, an act witnessed by Minister Diamantino Azevedo and the Secretary of State for the Environment, Ana Paula Coelho.
