ADB highlights “very good” relations with Angola and ongoing reforms in the country

The representative of the African Development Bank (ADB) in Angola, Pietro Toigo, praised the “very good” relations between the institution and the Government and the economic, fiscal and budgetary reforms underway in the country.

:

"I think the moment (of cooperation with Angola) is extremely interesting, I think relations are very good", said the person responsible to Lusa, at the launch of the seventh edition of the "África Energy Market Place (AEMP)" forum, which takes place on Thursday in Luanda.

According to Pietro Toigo, the banking institution "appreciates the actions, efforts and challenges" underway in Angola, in the transition of its social and economic model, "which is being accelerated in a very significant way" after 2017.

"We also have to give credit to the various reforms that were implemented in the economic system, including some somewhat painful reforms such as the partial removal of fuel subsidies, and measures to combat corruption", he pointed out.

He also highlighted the reforms in the fiscal and budgetary system and the Informal Economy Reconversion Programs (PREI) and Production Support, Export Diversification and Import Substitution (PROSDEI).

"These are extremely complex reforms, we have to give a lot of credit to what has been done so far and we also have to understand that the country went through an external crisis, especially with covid-19, but the country fulfilled its international obligations. We are look to the future with great interest", he declared.

AEMP is a collaborative investment platform created by the ADB as part of the New Agreement on Energy for Africa, the seventh edition of which is taking place in Angola in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Water.

Angola has been a member of the ADB since 1977 and the first operation was approved in 1982, and the relationship between the two has deepened greatly in the last decade, as highlighted by Pietro Toigo.
