Pedro Nuno Santos praises rail investments in Angola and the actions of Portuguese companies

The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing of Portugal, Pedro Nuno Santos, praises the important set of railway investments in Angola, mentioning that prioritizing rail transport is an indispensable instrument for economic and social progress.

The Portuguese official, in a message addressed to the Association of Railway Technicians of Angola (Atefa), presented this Tuesday at the 1st Cycle of Technical Railways Conferences in Angola, in Luanda, also expressed pride in the action of Portuguese companies in the Angolan railway sector.

"I have become aware of the important set of railway investments that Angola is carrying out, such as the rehabilitation of the railway section in part of the Luanda Railway [CFL] line and the construction of the new Luena-Saurimo and Zambia connections and on the Benguela Railway [CFB])", he says in the message presented by the president of Atefa, Mário Bernardo.

According to Pedro Nuno Santos, prioritizing rail transport "is, without a doubt, an indispensable instrument" in the path of the various peoples towards economic and social progress.

The existence of "numerous Portuguese companies or Portuguese teams" of large international groups in the field of rail transport working in Angola was also highlighted by the Portuguese minister.

"I could not remain indifferent and here I express my gratitude and pride to the Portuguese Government in the work that these and other companies do in Angola and around the world", he noted.

The Portuguese Minister of Infrastructure and Housing also congratulated Atefa on the "courageous step" of its recent structuring with the support of its "Portuguese sister", the Portuguese Association for the Development of Integrated Transport Systems (Adfersit).

The organization of this 1st Cycle of Technical Railways Conferences in Angola "shows your commitment to sharing the best industrial and business practices, in deepening the technical debate with railway companies, also with universities and all those who seek to promote and dynamize the development of the railway sector Angolan", concluded Pedro Nuno Santos.

The 1st Cycle of Technical Railways Conferences in Angola is part of the celebrations of the 134th anniversary of the beginning of railway operation in Angola, which is marked on 31 October.
