Gira Benguela goes to the province to 'hunt' the football talents in the communities

After Gira Luanda, this time the talent hunters head to Benguela, for a football tournament whose main objective is to attract talent in the communities. Gira Benguela starts on the 5th of November and promises to discover the most promising players in the province.

This is an initiative of the Movimento do Desporto na Comunidade (MDC) project, being the second biggest event of its kind in the country, after the first edition in the capital. It is planned to move 16 football teams, representing the ten municipalities in the province, for three months.

According to António Moisés, coordinator of the MDC, the main objective of the initiative is the revitalization of football in the communities, at the various levels. Cited by Angop, the official explained that the 16 teams will be organized by series, with the first two qualified for the next stage.

In addition to the possibility of greater visibility of the players, the prizes are also appealing: the winning team will receive two million kwanzas, the second placed one and a half million and the third one million kwanzas. The best scorer and the least beaten goalkeeper will also be awarded 200 thousand kwanzas each.

In addition, these players will be immediately integrated into the football club Escolinha Isaac de Benguela, which currently plays in Girabola.

Another of the objectives of this project is to lead young people to fruitful activities, keeping them occupied and keeping them away from alcoholic beverages, tobacco and drugs, preventing them from entering the world of crime. "The lack of occupation generates delinquency. We want to bring together and socialize all young people through sport", said the official.

The initiative has the support of the Provincial Government of Benguela and the local business class.
