Ana Dias Lourenço wants to “equip communities with digital tools and services”

The need to “equip communities with digital tools and services to accelerate the transformation and well-being of rural populations” was defended this Thursday by Ana Dias Lourenço.

This is one of the paths to be traced, complemented by the international standard and the gradual predominance of the digital universe, underlined the First Lady of the Republic, speaking at a panel on the influence of the First Ladies in the empowerment of women, which took place in Cape Green.

Cited by Angop, Ana Dias Lourenço took the opportunity to mention the 1000 Digital Villages Initiative, classifying it as "paradigmatic" and informing that it is being tested in seven African countries, with the aim of providing communities with tools and services digital.

"The 1000 Digital Villages Initiative is paradigmatic and is currently being piloted in seven African countries with the aim of equipping communities with digital tools and services to accelerate the transformation and well-being of rural populations," she said.

"One of the measures already implemented consisted in the creation of an application for the electronic registration of land and another application for the management of pests and diseases", she added, quoted by Angop.

In her speech, the first lady also mentioned that the country is moving steadily towards the abovementioned objectives, aiming to provide the communities with knowledge and technical and behavioral skills, through economic empowerment, writes Angop.

She also took the opportunity to mention the creation of the Ngana Zenza Foundation, which is "fully committed to the sustainable development of communities, in particular rural communities".

"In 2020, I created the Ngana Zenza Foundation for Community Development, which is fully committed to the sustainable development of communities, in particular rural communities. FDC works with the most vulnerable groups in society, including children , young girls and women, in order to promote basic values, such as respect, solidarity, ethics, innovation and social responsibility", he said, quoted by Angop.

Stating that more than 30 percent of families in Africa live on less than two dollars a day, she considered that the empowerment of women, as well as their participation in economic activity, is assumed to be indispensable.

"My appeal is for all women to fight for their rightful place and, above all, for them to persist in their struggle to build an Africa, aware that each woman has a role and a mission to play. each and every one in its role, unshakable development partners: in a decisive, effective and inclusive way", he added, quoted by Angop.

He also mentioned the need to place gender equality in the midst of public discussion on the continent: "The necessary centrality of gender equality in the public discussion in Africa does not result only from the fact that it is a matter of human rights, but also because be instrumental in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the goals of the Agenda 2063 of the African Union".

Ana Dias Lourenço also considered that goals such as the elimination of poverty, guaranteeing peace, safeguarding the planet against climate change, among others, will not be achieved without the active role of women, writes Angop.

He also took the opportunity to speak about the commitment adopted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the political leaders of Africa in order to bet on changing the agri-food method, promoting trade and investment in the Free Trade Area. African continent as well as ensuring that women, youth and rural farmers are embraced in the continent's agri-food methods.

The panel's theme was "The Global Influence and Leadership of First Ladies: how it affects the empowerment of the new generation of African youth and women" and was part of the 6th edition of the Tropics Business Summit.
