According to Adilson Miguel, a member of Armed, the drug registration process in Angola, in light of World Health Organization (WHO) regulations, will start in the third week of November.

The official, who was taking part in a debate on "The role of the pharmaceutical industry in the development of the health sector in Angola", assured that the registration of medicines in the country will be a fact as soon as the audit that the WHO carries out at Armed, an organ of the Ministry of health.

For the Angolan authorities and participants in the debate, promoted by the National Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry of Angola (ANIFA), in Luanda, the registration of medicines should help to stop the counterfeiting that persists in the country.

This record, in the opinion of doctor Euridice Chongolola, who represented the Order of Doctors of Angola, is an initiative that should help in prescribing medicines to patients.

During the debate, the president of ANIFA, Nuno Cardoso, referred to data that showed that around 30 percent of the medicines consumed in Angola are counterfeit or falsified.

"And the registration of medicines is essential for what enters the country", said the head of ANIFA, who promoted the debate after the presentation of its governing bodies.

Regarding the registration of medicines, Pombal Mayembe, head of the department supporting the office of the director-general of Armed, also reaffirmed that the process begins in November and should help regulate the national pharmaceutical market.

The registration will stop a lot of things, "relating to the falsification of medicines, counterfeiting, low quality medicines, despite these being approved by the WHO, but the registration will help in the regulation of the pharmaceutical market", he stressed.
