According to Antonino Sousa, next year, the cities of Luanda, Huambo and Benguela will receive Escritaria, replicating the tribute that the Portuguese festival organized to the writer Pepetela, in 2018.

Speaking to journalists, after the inauguration of a silhouette of Ana Luísa Amaral, with the presence of the author's daughter, in a garden in the city, the mayor of Penafiel explained that the initiative in Angola will take place in January, as part of a partnership with the Piaget Institute and with the Angolan Government.

Antonino Sousa pointed out, on the other hand, that the festival will also visit Cape Verde, in March or April 2023, with an activity plan that will recreate the tribute to Cape Verdean Germano Almeida, held in 2021.

The mayor recalled that the idea of internationalizing Escritaria for Lusophone Africa stemmed from the visit that the Minister of Culture of Cape Verde made to the 2021 edition.

"Contacts have taken place and the program is being designed", he observed, noting that steps have been taken that can transform Escritaria "into a festival of great dimension in the Lusophony world".

The mayor added: "The idea that we want to implement is to take to each of these destinations what happens here during this week. In these first actions, we will give a special focus to those authors from the respective countries who have already passed through Escritaria".

Also on Friday, the mayor of Penafiel said that he received the mayor of Bissau in that city in the district of Porto, with whom, he indicated, the possibility of a Guinean writer being honored in one of the next editions of Escritaria.

Since its first edition, the Escritaria Literary Festival has honored Urbano Tavares Rodrigues, José Saramago, Agustina Bessa-Luís, Mia Couto, António Lobo Antunes, Mário de Carvalho, Lídia Jorge, Mário Cláudio, Alice Vieira, Miguel Sousa Tavares, Pepetela, Manuel Alegre, Mário Zambujal and Germano Almeida.
