Angolan Football Federation complains about treatment in Gabon

The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) announced on Friday that it has filed a complaint with the African Football Confederation (CAF) about treatment the Angolan national team has been subjected to in Franceville, Gabon.

According to the director of the FAF's Communication and Marketing Office, António Muaxilela, the Angolan football body already has in its possession material evidence to substantiate the protest.

"The African Confederation has all the information, because they followed and know everything that happened in Gabon, through videos and images. Therefore, any decision can be taken," he said.

On Sunday, October 10, upon arrival at Franceville airport, in Gabon, the Angolan national team was held for more than two hours in a room without air conditioning and without chairs, as the Gabonese authorities required tests to be carried out to covid-19.

The fact was considered deplorable by the Angolan Football Federation which, among several points, demanded the intervention of the African Football Confederation and FIFA.

It all happened following the incidents before the Angola-Gabon game, in Luanda, which was delayed, for more than an hour and a half, due to the failure to carry out the Covid-19 tests by the Gabonese team in Angolan territory.

Even so, FIFA decided to carry out the game, considering the tests that the Gaboneses carried out in their country, two days before the game, won by Angola by 3-1, to be valid.

In Sunday's game, for the 4th round of group F, in Franceville, the Gaboneses beat the Angolans by 2-0, a result that definitely ruled out the Portuguese team led by Pedro Gonçalves from qualifying for the Mundial2022.

The Angolans return to play, on 11 November, in Luanda, against Egypt, by Carlos Queiroz, with whom they lost in the first round, by 1-0, and ends the group stage, three days later, when they visit Libya, with whom he also lost in the second round, for the same result.

Egypt leads the group with ten points, followed by Libya with six and Gabon with four. Angola is the last classified, with three points.
