CASA-CE criticizes State interference in the conflict of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God

The leader of the Comprehensive Convergence for the Salvation of Angola – Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE) called on the Government to respect the principle of secularity in the State, in relation to the conflict involving the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God.

:

"It is difficult to understand why the vast majority of the Churches of the Universal Church are closed. Angola as a secular State, wherever justice is called, the related institutions must act in accordance with the law and the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, and for that we are following, we are facing an injustice and it does not suit the process of building the Angola nation," said Manuel Fernandes, in the presentation of the coalition's vision of the State of the nation.

At issue is an internal conflict in the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD) in Angola, which began in November 2019, when a group of Angolan dissidents decided to withdraw from the Brazilian leadership, with several accusations, including evasion of borders, racism, mandatory practice of vasectomy, among others, all rejected by the missionaries of the church created by the Brazilian Edir Macedo, who accuse the Angolans of xenophobia and aggression.

As a result, the court, within the scope of an open process, decreed the closure of existing temples across the country, having already passed more than a year since the decision.

The Government has always denied that the crisis in the IURD has political or diplomatic aspects, considering that it was an internal problem "that generated a crisis", with legal implications, and that "that is why the State cannot remain indifferent to this situation" , according to the Minister of Justice and Human Rights.
