Malanje and Textang II sign agreement to relaunch cotton production in Baixa de Cassanje

The provincial government of Malanje and IEP, the company that manages Textang II, signed an agreement on Thursday to relaunch cotton production in Baixa de Cassanje.

According to the representative of the IEP, António Parço, speaking to Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), the country is expected to stop importing cotton in two or three years: "We trust that in two or three years there will be no more imports of cotton by Angola".

He also made it known that the annual production of raw cotton could reach 50 thousand tons. "Depending on the yield, it can be a value greater than 50,000 tonnes of raw cotton," he revealed.

Norberto Fernandes dos Santos "Kwata Kanawa", governor of Malanje province, considered that this step could contribute to the development of the textile industry in Angola.

"The company's representatives themselves showed interest, because the company would not be profitable by importing cotton from other countries," he stated.

The governor also told RNA that "now we just have to hope that production is good" and that it can "contribute to the development of our country".

This agreement includes the training of local producers and the delivery of agricultural equipment. According to RNA, the production of this product will cover around 700 family producers, in an extension of 1400 hectares.
