At the end of the audience granted by the Head of State, Jean-Pierre Lacroix said that the United Nations is interested in intensifying cooperation between Angola and peacekeeping operations.

"I told His Excellency the President of the Republic that we are ready to continue and intensify the common work, to technically prepare a possible deployment of Angola's military and police personnel and units," said the UN official, in a statement that VerAngola had access.

Jean-Pierre Lacroix also said that the meeting with the Head of State served to thank Angola for its support in efforts for peace in the Great Lakes region, as well as to address the situation in the Central African Republic, where positive steps were taken with the ceasefire.

"We have been discussing what needs to be done to strengthen this positive evolution in the Central African Republic and about the common work that the United Nations can do with the CIRGL, to implement the other stages of the roadmap for this regional organization," he added.

Another issue addressed at the meeting was the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the United Nations has a peace mission called MONUSCO.

In addition to this issue, the President of the Republic and the United Nations Under-Secretary General for Peace Operations spoke about the importance of regional efforts for the stability of member countries.

“Our work at the level of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in cooperation with the authorities in Kinshasa, is one part of a series of global efforts. And at the level of the Great Lakes region it is a very important component, an indispensable complement to strengthening the return of peace in this region," he concluded.
