According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), in the 55 member states of the organization there were 7242 recovered, for a total of 1,423,342.
Southern Africa continues to record the highest number of cases of infection and deaths, with 795,931 infected and 20,499 fatalities. In this region, only South Africa, the continent's most affected country, accounts for 717,851 cases and 19,053 deaths.
North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has 485,398 people infected and 13,558 killed and in East Africa there are 206,925 infected and 3857 fatalities.
In the West African region, the number of infections is 188,166, with 2743 fatalities, and Central Africa has 60,079 cases and 1134 deaths, the same number as 24 hours ago.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 6222 deaths and 106,877 infected, and Morocco counts 3,445 fatalities and 203,733 cases of infection.
Algeria followed, with 56,706 infections and 1931 deaths.
Among the six most affected countries are also Ethiopia, which has 94,218 cases of infection and 1,445 fatalities, and Nigeria, with 62,224 infected and 1135 dead.
Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases.
Angola records 271 deaths and 9871 cases, followed by Cape Verde (94 deaths and 8472 cases), Mozambique (89 deaths and 12,273 cases), Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 5083 cases), Guinea-Bissau (41 deaths and 2413 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 dead and 941 cases).
