"It is in a stable condition and presents mild symptoms, that is, it is not in a critical state," indicated the same source, adding that the hospitalization, in a clinic in Luanda is just "as a precaution".

On Friday, the governor of Uíje and former governor of Luanda, Luther Rescova, was the first prominent figure of the MPLA to die from the disease.

On Thursday, the Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, said during a press conference held at the Centro de Imprensa Aníbal de Melo (CIAM), in Luanda, that the Angolan "top leaders" infected with covid-19 who are being treated in several health units in Luanda are recovering from the disease, without naming names.

The minister also recalled that covid-19 has no function or social stratum and may also affect people who work in the state apparatus. "It is a disease for everyone and nobody is immune to the virus," she said, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

The country has so far registered a total of 6366 cases, of which 218 deaths, 2743 recovered and 3405 active, 12 critical, 20 severe, 87 moderate, 429 mild and 2857 asymptomatic.
