Presidential Decree 148/20, of 30 September, authorizes the exceptional entry of 250 ex-military personnel, delegating to the minister in charge "the signature of the entry orders and procedures that are necessary for the rapid deployment of such personnel".

In a statement to the Lusa agency, the director of INBAC, Albertina Nzunzi, welcomed the decision, which minimizes the deficit of inspectors in all environmental conservation areas of the country.

"We have 150 inspectors in all national parks, but this number is not enough, given the situations of poaching. This number of 250 inspectors comes to reinforce our objectives of continuing to supervise and give greater effectiveness to supervision in national parks," said Albertina Nzunzi.

This week, three poachers were sentenced to sentences ranging from 11 months in prison to four years in prison, with suspended sentence, by the Municipal Court of Icolo and Bengo, in summary judgment, for crimes of aggression against the environment, in the Quiçama National Park, located in the province of Luanda.

The offenders were arrested in possession of 150 kilograms of dried meat from animals of several endangered species, namely wild boars, protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Angola controls 13 environmental conservation areas, characterized by national parks, integral and special natural reserves, which make up 162,642 square kilometers of protected areas.
