According to data from Banco de Portugal, made available on the website, the Portuguese working in Angola sent 17.06 million euros to Portugal, representing an increase of 66.7 percent compared to the 10.23 million sent in August last year.
Conversely, Angolans working in Portugal sent 650,000 euros in August, which represents a 13.3 percent drop from the 750,000 euros sent in August last year.
The variation in the values of the remittances of Portuguese workers in Angola strongly influences the evolution of the value of African Countries of Portuguese Official Language (PALOP), since it represents the vast majority of the funds.
Thus, the Portuguese working in the Portuguese-speaking African countries sent 17.72 million euros in August, which represents an increase of 63.3 percent compared to the 10.85 million sent in August 2019.
In the world total, remittances from the Portuguese diaspora fell 3.5 percent, from 302 million euros in August last year to 291.3 million this year.
