According to data made available by the National Bank of Angola (BNA) and compiled by Lusa, the country spent US$509.9 million on food imports in the first quarter of the year compared to US$445.3 million in the second.
The total volume of food imports in the months of April, May and June 2024 also fell by 9.2 percent compared to the same period in 2023, when 490.8 million dollars were spent.
The BNA's quarterly data states that, in the second quarter of 2024, the country spent more on imports of machinery and equipment, with a total of 816.5 million dollars, an increase of 102 percent compared to the previous quarter.
Imports of fuel, with 765.3 million dollars, 30.3 million more than in the previous quarter, food (445.3 million), construction and construction materials (324.9 million) and vehicles and their parts (232.6 million) lead the list of most imported products this quarter.
