According to a statement from the provincial government of Namibe, to which VerAngola had access, the group is made up of researchers from the Netherlands, Brazil and the Agostinho Neto University (UAN) and has already carried out scientific research in collaboration with the University of Namibe.
This Thursday, the researchers returned to focusing on fieldwork, having begun a new three-day expedition, whose main mission is to collect fossils of dinosaurs and marine reptiles that passed through that area thousands of years ago, especially in Bentiaba.
According to the statement, the governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, met with the group of researchers and the ambassador of the Netherlands in Angola, Tsjeard Hoekstra, in a meeting "dominated by the topics of agriculture, tourism and scientific projects".
"The Dutch ambassador was accompanied to Namibe by a group of researchers from the Netherlands, Brazil and UAN, who have been working with UNINBE in the Bentiaba area, on scientific research aimed at preserving the scientific heritage", the note reads.
On the occasion, Archer Mangueira highlighted that "the ongoing research will serve to produce economic, tourist and historical content for the province of Namibe".
In May of this year, according to the Jornal de Angola, the team made its first field trip in that area, having discovered 12 blocks of fossils dating back approximately two million years.
