"The project is progressing well and the Minister of Oil gave an update, during which he stated that it could be operational by next year, probably by July," said the official, in statements made this Thursday, after the fourth meeting of the National Council of Public Works (CNOP), which was chaired by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano.
According to a government statement, to which VerAngola had access, the meeting aimed, among other topics, to "address the integrated progress of the structural projects and the current status of the master plans at municipal level, within the framework of territorial planning".
It should be noted that, when it starts operating, the aforementioned refinery will create "added value" for the national economy "and, in particular, will reduce its dependence on fuel imports".
In addition to the Cabinda refinery, the meeting also served to review the progress of the works at the Mbanza Congo Airport (Zaire), as well as the "integrated infrastructures of the city of Sumbe and the local hospital in Cuanza Sul, the Ndalatando hospital in Cuanza Norte, and Cabinda Airport, in terms of physical and financial execution".
On the occasion, Agostinho da Silva reported that the demining and geotechnical work at Cabinda Airport has been completed, and environmental impact studies are currently underway.
Regarding the progress of the Municipal Master Plans (PDM), Teresa Pedro, director of the CNOP Technical Office, said that "during the course of this year, in coordination with the Ministry of Planning, the master and urban plans will be drawn up, with financing from the World Bank".
Quoted in the statement, the official also made it known that "the works taking place in the province of Cuanza Sul, specifically in the city of Sumbe, are already integrated and will support the projects underway in this city, such as the Sumbe General Hospital".
