According to the same source, the accident involving a mini-bus, which provided taxi service, resulted in 11 deaths and 18 injuries at the scene. One of the injured died on Wednesday in the hospital unit and this Thursday another death was recorded.

According to the spokesman for the police in Benguela, Ernesto Chiwale, quoted this Thursday by the national press, the accident was caused by excessive speed and loss of brakes, which resulted in the vehicle skidding and overturning, in Morro do Pundo.

The injured, "some still in serious condition", continue to receive medical care at the general hospitals in Benguela and regional hospitals in Lobito.

Road accidents in Angola are the second leading cause of death in the country after malaria.
