MPLA asks citizens for tranquility and says institutions “will continue to guarantee peace”

The MPLA, winner of the elections, this Monday asked citizens to “maintain tranquility” and respect the Constitution and the law, ensuring that state institutions will continue to serve the people and “guarantee peace and social tranquility”.

The Political Bureau of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), proclaimed winner of the fifth national elections, also urged citizens to continue working for the development of Angola.

This body of "comrades" met this Monday under the guidance of its president, João Lourenço, in its third extraordinary session, where it analyzed the future composition of Organs internal bodies of the National Assembly, depending on the results of the elections of 24 August.

According to the final communiqué of the meeting, the members of the body were informed about the positions to be filled, having ratified the composition proposal submitted, for this purpose, by the party president.

Carolina Cerqueira, who in the outgoing government held the position of Minister of State for the Social Area, was proposed by the MPLA to preside over the parliament for the next five years.

The members of the MPLA Political Bureau, "having fully read the electoral results obtained by the MPLA, reiterated their deepest gratitude to all the Angolan people for the civic and patriotic way in which they participated in the elections, in particular their militants".

On the occasion, the MPLA leadership reiterated its "congratulations to João Lourenço - President of all Angolans - for his victory in the general elections of 24 August and wished him success in the conduct of the nation's destinies during the next term" ".

Last week, the Constitutional Court (TC) validated the final results of the August 24 general elections, released by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and dismissed the contentious appeals presented by UNITA and CASA-CE.
