José de Lima Massano met with presidents of commercial banks

José de Lima Massano, Governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), met this Thursday with the presidents of the Boards of Directors of Commercial Banks. Topics related to the performance of the national banking sector were discussed, with emphasis on the analysis of market indicators.

The meeting, which took place in the central bank's Sala Kwanza, also addressed the efficiency of the Angolan Payments System, compliance with the corporate governance model and internal control, the management of bank customers' complaints, sanctions applied for infringements, as well as the prospect of increasing the minimum share capital of banking financial institutions.

According to a statement from the BNA to which VerAngola had access, regarding the performance of the banking system, it was emphasized that, throughout 2022, "there was a significant improvement in the main indicators of financial strength, and therefore the need to ensuring continuous rigor and responsibility in complying with the rules issued by Banco Nacional Angola, as a macro-prudential and supervisory authority​ for the banking sector, in the field of sound and prudent management of commercial banks, with a view to mitigating, in a more efficient way, the risks underlying the activity developed and preserve the maintenance of depositors' confidence, as well as guarantee the safeguarding of the stability of the financial system".

On the other hand, the need to update the minimum share capital of commercial banks in view of the evolution of the national economy in recent years was addressed, with a view to strengthening regulatory own funds to absorb unexpected losses, cover new risks and increase the capacity of financing the national economy.

The deputy governor Rui Miguêns, the executive directors Miguel Miguel and Pedro Castro e Silva and the directors of the Financial Stability, Banking Supervision, Regulation and Financial Conduct departments, Tuneka Lukau, Elavoko João, Carla Gomes and Osvaldo dos Santos, participated in the meeting. respectively.

BNA Distinguished at the Global Policy Forum for Financial Inclusion

The National Bank of Angola was distinguished and awarded by the International Finance Alliance (AFI) this Thursday with the Gender Inclusive Finance Ambassador Award, at the 7th Global Policy Forum for Financial Inclusion (Global Policy Forum - GPF), which takes place in Dead Sea, Jordan, under the motto "Advancing together towards a resilient, inclusive and sustainable future".

During the forum, which brings together leaders from the AFI's global network, administrator Beatriz Ferreira de Andrade dos Santos, who leads the delegation of Banco Nacional Angola, expressed her "deep satisfaction at the recognition of the International Finance Alliance for the work carried out by the BNA in scope of promoting financial inclusion in the country", says a statement from the central bank.
