The Ministry of Youth and Sports creates measures to grant retirement to athletes

Policies and measures are being created by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure that athletes receive retirement after their career is over.

"The Ministry of Youth and Sports has been creating policies and measures to ensure athletes a retirement pension after the end of their career," reads a statement posted on the government's Facebook page.

Ana Paula Sacramento, Minister of Youth and Sports, made it known that her tutelage is working together with the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security to be defined the retirement pension.

"The practitioner's life is short. So, we must see how long the athlete should be discounted to then benefit from the retirement," she indicated, quoted in the note.

According to the holder of the Youth and Sports portfolio, "the idea is to make the athletes, while they are active, discount for social security and pay the work income tax."

According to the statement, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is also working with the ministries of Social Action, Family and Women's Promotion, and Health, in order to find "ways to support athletes at the end of their careers, who present some difficulties.

The minister concludes by saying that it is necessary to work to give protection to the athletes, aiming at "avoiding discrediting situations or that they stay in begging, when in a certain period they represented a national selection or a club".
