Traffic accidents cause 10 dead and 32 injured during the weekend in Luanda

Police over the weekend recorded 10 deaths and 32 injured in a total of 33 traffic accidents in the province of Luanda, police authorities said this Monday.

According to a police report on public safety in the last 72 hours, the recorded accidents caused damage valued at over 19 million kwanzas.

The document states that, as part of the regularization and supervision of automobile traffic, 28 motorcycles were seized and penalties were applied to 428 drivers for various violations of the Highway Code.

"Last Friday, eight motorists, aged between 19 and 43, were arrested and referred to court for the crime of active corruption to law enforcement officers and sentenced to 20 to 60 days in prison, converted into a fine of 80,000 kwanzas to 300,000 kwanzas," indicates the police.

Between Saturday and Sunday, 69 other drivers were arrested, aged between 21 and 55, presumed perpetrators of the crime of active corruption, which should be presented to court.

In Angola, traffic accidents are the second cause of death after malaria.

Over the weekend, the police seized eight firearms, including six AKM-type machine guns and one pistol, and arrested 137 individuals presumed to have committed various crimes, among which stands out the arrest of an 18-year-old citizen in the Malueca neighborhood, municipality of Cacuaco, on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter.

The crime occurred inside a residence, the victim was a woman, 22 years old, and it is assumed that both maintained a love relationship.
