President of the Republic received by the King of Spain at the beginning of his official visit

João Lourenço was received this morning by the King of Spain at the start of a two-day official visit, which includes a meeting with the Spanish prime minister, to review the cooperation between the two countries.

:

Felipe VI received João Lourenço at the gate of the Palácio da Zarzuela, the residence of the kings on the outskirts of Madrid, and then accompanied him to the Audience Room for an official photograph, after which he joined the delegations of both countries.

On the Angolan side were present the minister of Foreign Affairs, Teté António, and the Angolan ambassador to Spain, José Luís de Matos Agostinho, and on the Spanish side, the undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Luís Manuel Cuesta, and the Spanish ambassador to Angola , Manuel Hernández Ruigómez.

Felipe VI and João Lourenço, accompanied by the two delegations, were then met.

The President of the Republic is the guest of honor at a lunch offered by the kings of Spain at the Royal Palace in Madrid, starting at 14:15 local time (13:15 in Luanda).

In the afternoon, the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, will receive João Lourenço at 17:00 (16:00) at the Palácio da Moncloa, the seat of the Government.

A Spanish government source told Lusa news agency that João Lourenço's visit "repays" the official visit made to Angola on April 7 by Pedro Sánchez, who was accompanied on the occasion by representatives of several Spanish companies.

Madrid considers the former Portuguese colonies of Angola and Mozambique "priority" countries in its ambitious strategy to increase economic and diplomatic relations with Africa.

Days before leaving for Luanda, Sánchez presented the plan "Foco Africa 2023" which he hopes will mark a turning point in relations of all kinds with the African continent, in order to reach a "new strategic partnership" in which Madrid can lead the European Union's action with this part of the world.

According to the President's agenda, João Lourenço ends his visit to Spain on Wednesday, the day on which he plans to visit "infrastructure and institutional objectives in the Spanish capital".

The visit to the Spanish capital "completes" the national "diplomatic action" abroad, which included Washington (headquarters of the US Government and several international economic institutions), New York (headquarters of the United Nations) and Madrid.
