The government creates conditions for Angolans in the diaspora to obtain their IDs and thus exercise their right to vote in the elections

The government revealed that it is preparing "conditions for the collection of data and attribution of the Identity Card to all Angolans living abroad, so that they can exercise their right to vote in the next general elections".

According to information provided by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Francisco Queiroz, this work is already being developed "since last year and some consulates abroad are already prepared and have been issuing identity cards".

Quoted in a statement published on the government's Facebook page, the minister said that Angolans who are in Portugal can already "resort to the consulates of Lisbon and Porto" to update their data and issue their Identity Card.

"In France, the data update will be done in the city of Paris, in South Africa in Capetown and Johannesburg and in neighboring Namibia in Oshakati and Windhoek. National citizens in Zambia can update their data in Lusaka, Solwezi and Mongu, and those who are in the Democratic Republic of Congo in Kinshasa and Matadi," says the note.

The holder of the Justice and Human Rights folder also made it known that the Executive estimates to reach "76 countries where there are diplomatic missions and consulates to facilitate the national citizens in the acquisition of Identity Cards".

For this, in an initial phase, other consulates will be trained starting this Wednesday: Brussels (Belgium), Lyon (France), São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Rundo (Namibia), Rotterdam (Netherlands), London (United Kingdom), and Berlin (Germany).

"Of course, we will possibly not cover all 76 countries, but those where there is a higher concentration of national citizens. If, eventually, a national citizen lives in a country that doesn't have the system in place, he or she can go to the nearest city. But there will be conditions to register and give identity cards to all citizens living in the Diaspora, so that they can participate in the 2022 voting," said Francisco Queiroz.

At the national level, the Government intends, until the end of the legislature, "to give identity cards to 3.479.343 citizens and for this reason has approved a program for the acquisition of equipment for a faster service".

According to the statement, in order to collect data and issue the documents nationwide, "500 mobile kits will be acquired, 15,000,000 blank blank cards for issuing the Identity Card, and rolling stock to circulate throughout the country".

The minister said that the 500 kits "have already been approved" and will be acquired soon. "With this budget for the rolling stock we will also cover the whole country," he added.

The minister assured that conditions are also created to issue the Identity Card right after birth.
