UNAC and Unitel show desire to establish partnership to support national musicians

Unitel and União Nacional dos Artistas e Compositores (UNAC) intend to form a partnership to support national musicians. The desire was expressed during a meeting that took place last Wednesday between the two entities.

:

"Based on the support to national culture and its valorisation, Unitel held on 15 September a virtual meeting with the Board of the National Union of Artists and Composers - Authors' Society - UNAC-SA, to establish a partnership with a view to promoting national music", a statement sent to VerAngola reads.

The meeting was attended by the President of UNAC-SA, José Moreno, the Director of Copyrights and Related Areas, Raúl Manuel, and, from Unitel, the Director of Marketing and Digital Business, Teodoro Fernandes and the Senior Manager of Planning and Design of the Directorate of Marketing and Digital Business, Mónica Casqueiro.

At the meeting, "convergent points were raised for the definition of a support to angolan artists".

Quoted in the note, José Moreno indicated that UNAC, which is represented by more than 5000 artists in Copyright and Related Rights, wants "to see its members making their works available on Unitel platforms," such as Kissom.

In addition, the institution also wants to establish with Unitel "a partnership relationship that clarifies the copyrights of the associated artists, and we have total openness to negotiate," he indicated.

The vision of José Moreno is in line with that of Teodoro Fernandes, who assured that Unitel is fully available to support.

At the meeting, Mónica Casqueiro clarified the "current molds of preparation of contracts for the provision of content to the platforms" and assured that the process is "done on the basis of transparency with content providers and representatives of musicians, with whom Unitel has a contract".

"We have contracts with Content Providers, such as: LS Republicano, Clé ent, Go Edições, Cygnus, among others. On the basis of transparency and reliability, so that they can make the distribution of content (music) on our platforms, and at the end of each month we send the reports with the values to be paid. The Content Provider is the one who directly shares the revenues with the musicians," he explained.

Teodoro Fernandes added that the contracts initialed with the content providers are signed with the guarantee that "they can reimburse the collection rights when necessary".

"There may be some musicians who don't have a contract with the Content Provider, but have one with UNAC - SA, for example. UNAC has every right to question Unitel and Unitel has no problem honoring that payment commitment, as long as they can prove that the artist is represented by them," he said.

In addition, Unitel also showed itself available to solve some issues that might hinder the partnership.

At the end of the meeting, the two institutions agreed to hold another meeting to "cement the partnership intention.
