The Angolan, 23 years old, will have the opportunity to conclude his master's degree in Japan, in the area of Genetic Engineering.

Diamantino Azevedo, Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, who spoke on the sidelines of an audience granted by Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, Minister of Youth and Sports, stressed that the achievements of Valdemar Tchipenhe demonstrate that even in the face of adversity Angolans can stand out outside the country.

The minister, quoted by Angop, also said it was an honor to have a scientist under 25 in the country.

Along with the scholarship, the young man was also awarded a Diploma of Merit for his work on the project to set up molecular biology laboratories in the country. The diploma was awarded by the minister, who made it known that other Angolans will be recognized for their contributions to the country.

"The training of young people is part of the national development plan. The Angolan scientist has managed to become a citizen of the world, but as he is persistent and determined has achieved one more feat, be part of and lead a team to set up the laboratories that are contributing to the identification of cases of covid-19 in Angola," he said, quoted by Angop.

The young man, who was accompanied by his older sister, took the opportunity to thank João Lourenço for the opportunities given to the young Angolans and the Minister of Health for having allowed him to lead the group to set up laboratories in the country.

Valdemar Tchipenhe has a degree in biotechnology from Zhejiang Normal University in China. After graduating, he was hired by the Chinese company BGI Genomics.

With the appearance of covid-19, the Angolan was called to work with a team of Chinese specialists, ending up leading a team of specialists of this nationality in setting up laboratories in Angola. Before returning to the country, the young man was in Gabon and Togo, also setting up laboratories.
