José Eduardo dos Santos University receives postgraduate degree in anti-corruption

The José Eduardo dos Santos University, in Huambo, in partnership with the Institute for Legal Cooperation of the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon and the Camões Institute, is hosting, as of this month, an online postgraduate course on corruption.

The 1st Online Postgraduate Course on the Legal Regime of Prevention and Fight against Corruption, Money Laundering and Organized Crime starts this Wednesday, September 2nd, with the opening session taking place at the José Eduardo dos Santos University Law School from 3 pm. The graduate course will last until December.

The course was created as part of the Project to Support the Consolidation of the Rule of Law of the PALOP and East Timor (PACED). According to a note, published on the project's website, the training is aimed at "90 participants (among judicial magistrates, public prosecutors, criminal investigation police, central bank technicians and financial information units), 30 of whom from PACED partner institutions in Angola and 60 from other project partner countries".

For the participants who are in Angola, the course will be held in person at the university, located in Huambo, and via videoconference for the others.

"The post-graduate course responds to the need for specialized training, with the aim of improving the skills of professionals who, in the different institutions, have responsibilities in preventing and combating crimes of corruption, money laundering and organized crime," explains the statement, adding that this training will allow a more effective response "in the fight against economic and financial crimes, contributing to more transparent and fair societies.

According to the course regulations, this will be given by these modules and the classes will take place from Wednesday to Friday, from 3pm to 7pm.

"The scientific coordination is in charge of the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University José Eduardo dos Santos, Professor João Valeriano, and the President of the Institute of Legal Cooperation of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, Professor Fernando Loureiro Basto", can be read in the note.

The course will be taught by Portuguese and Angolan teachers, researchers and jurists.

The initiative has a budget of 8.4 million euros: 7 million financed by the European Union and 1.4 million by Camões, of which 8.05 million euros administered directly by Camões.
