Covid-19: Angola announces 119 new cases and one more dead

Angola has registered 119 more cases of covid-19 and one more death, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced this Tuesday.

Of the new cases, nine are from Cabinda, two from Huíla, one from Benguela and the rest from Luanda, aged between 11 and 80 years, 88 are male and 31 are female.

One 88-year-old Angolan died and 13 people recovered, with 462 patients being followed in the treatment centers.

In total, Angola has 4236 cases, 155 deaths, 1462 recovered and 2619 active, with nine in critical condition.

A total of 1,675 samples were tested, adding up to 77,610 analyzed samples.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused at least 965,760 deaths and more than 31.3 million cases of infection in 196 countries and territories, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 34,073 confirmed deaths in more than 1.4 million infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent statistics about the pandemic in the continent.

Among the African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases. Angola registers 155 deaths and 4236 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 5018 cases), Cape Verde (52 deaths and 5337 cases), Mozambique (45 deaths and 7114 cases), Guinea-Bissau (39 deaths and 2324 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 deaths and 908 cases).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
